Five Minute Friday: Loss

Linking up to Gypsy Mama, five minute friday. This week's prompt: Loss.

Before I clicked the this link today, I spent several minutes on Facebook. Searching for pictures of someone who just lost his life in a car accident a few days ago. He worked with my husband for several years at Red Lobster,a million years ago. He was only 37 and left behind a wife, child, stepchildren and others who I am sure loved and adored him.
As I was searching for these pictures, I saw many faces of people I have not seen for years. Everyone looked so young, carefree, and happy. I started to get a little bit sad, because today's pictures of the same people just don't look the same. We are more posed, serious, or often not in the pictures at all. Often we are the parents, taking the pictures. Or we are working, or cleaning, or fighting or worrying.
Lost are the times when all we cared about was having a good time. Being silly, and for me, often being stupid.
Of course, I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of this YOUNG man. but a little bit of me mourns the loss of the young me. I spend too much time staying in a state of hurrying, worrying, yelling, cleaning, etc. I want pictures of me being happy, carefree and living in the MOMENT. And in these pictures I want my family doing the same!! You just...never....know.

Rest in peace, young friend. You were loved and will be missed.

  1. Aw... This makes me kind of sad. Especially knowing that I'm falling into the same sort of pattern. Wonderfully written, though. Keep up the good work!

  3. But the things that you worry about are worth the loss of one for the gain of another.....doesn't mean you can't reclaim some of that youth back...you obviously have some spunk!

  4. Such a reminder to live each day to the fullest - to love deeply, to laugh much, to savor each moment.

  5. So true and such a great reminder to live each day to the fullest. It is so horrible to lose a dear friend although it is a wake up call to all us here to remember to enjoy it while we can.

  7. A good point to ponder. One of the men in our church died unexpected of a brain haemorrhage on Saturday. We have to live life as the great gift that it is.
